Sensational DTs lift Parks Trophy in nail biter vs Morton at Newfield!!

28 Jul 2016

In the much anticipated first ever Final for DT's in the annual Park Trophy held at Newfield, DT's were determined to continue the heroics of the previous rounds in the tournament and win their first ever Parks' Trophy. Asked to bowl first on a beautiful Newfield ground, Jami got the initial breakthrough by bowling out the Morton skipper. Tight bowling and some bizarre shot selection by the Morton batsman had DTs firmly on top. The middle overs between Rizwan and Sharez seriously dented the Morton innings with 4 wickets between the two in an 8 over spell to really halt the oppositions progress. Nav, Uday and Kiran all bowled to ensure Morton could only reach 87 off their allotted 20 overs.

From last week's defeat to Woodcutters at the same venue, DT's were fully aware that the batsman would have to work hard to reach the target on a fairly slowish Newfield wicket. With Jami and Arvind out in quick succession, Shehzad (22) and Dinesh (36) formed a match winning partnership to bring DTs closer to the target. Both took time to settle in and then got going with some wonderful strokes all over the park. However, with a series of quick wickets, DTs required 14 off the last 2 overs. Naveen smashed a sensational 6 in the 19th over to relieve the pressure and Gus played calmly towards the end to rotate strike to ensure Dts reached the target with 5 balls to spare and lift their first ever Parks Trophy!!! A sensational and absolutely scintillating effort by the entire club and it's members to reach the final and then to win it in such a close encounter with old rivals Morton. All the guys did a super job genuinely and played their heart out and made a significant contribution. Particular mention for man of the match Dinesh who joined DTs late in mid season and has become a core and integral member of the Club with some of his best knocks in the Parks Trophy; a brilliant match winning 46 not out in the semis vs Scottish Widows followed by a match winning 36 in the final vs Morton. Thank you to all the DT members who made the effort to come down and support the team and let's carry this form into our next midweek Semi vs Musselburgh in the ActivCity Finals Day!!!
