Dear Members of Drummond Trinity CC,
I
hope this email finds you and your families well. The last couple of months have been a
difficult time for all of us. I suspect
that none of us has lived through anything like the current environment, but I
hope you’re all managing to adapt and are not struggling too badly, either
financially or from a physical/mental health perspective.
I
want to let you know that the club’s committee is still functioning on behalf
of the club and its members. This is
being done primarily by a sub-committee comprising myself, Gurjeet and Tom,
with additional assistance from the other committee members as required. We are all still available via email or phone
and please feel free to contact any of us if you have any queries or concerns
regarding the club or when we’ll be able to play cricket again. Also, please remember there are various club
WhatsApp groups, as well as the FaceBook page, which can be used to keep in
touch with fellow members and stay up to date with developments regarding the
impact of Covid-19. You can even receive
more happy news, such as the recent birth of Uday’s daughter – congratulations
from all at the club Skipper!
Hopefully,
most of you will have seen this week’s announcement
by Cricket Scotland (http://www.cricketscotland.com/advice-on-covid-19/) that all cricketing activities have been suspended until
1 July, and that there will be no competitive league or cup cricket in Scotland
this summer as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Further to that CS announcement, ESCA have
been in contact with all clubs to gauge their interest in taking part in
friendly cricket of some form during July to September
this year – should it be possible for this to go ahead safely. Following a
discussion between the members of our sub-committee,
taking into account the likely restrictions on available
playing facilities in late Summer and potential problems regarding insurance, our current position is that Drummond Trinity CC
will not take part in any official cricket in 2020. This decision was not taken lightly, but we
feel it’s the most sensible decision. Cricket will return and it’s important that all club members are healthy
to enjoy it when it does.
Obviously,
the impact of this pandemic is widespread and the effects are continuously
evolving. Please be assured that we will review the
club’s position on a regular basis over the coming
weeks and months in light of any changes in government guidance, and any
new proposals put forward by the ECB, Cricket Scotland, ESCA and Edinburgh Leisure regarding a return to
organised cricket.
Look forward to seeing you all in the near future. In the meantime, stay safe and well.
Best regards,
Gus
