New Season - Saturday responsibilities

15 Apr 2014

Dear Fellow Dt's,

Are you excited yet? The Sun is shining, its warm....ish and we are playing cricket in 4 days, so its time to start thinking about other things except the playing side.

This season I have agreed with one or two others to help out with the Saturday work pre-match for home matches to allow Jamal to be able to concentrate on team matters and not whether there has been milk purchased for tea etc!!

For home matches at Inverleith the following has to be done before a match can start.

1. Cut playing strip
2. Tidy up rest of square and surroundings
3. Go round outfield and get rid of debris and any other elements that may be left behind by 4 legged friends!
4. Roll playing strip
5. Put flags out
6. Set up Scoreboard, table and chairs
7. Set up urn and warm the water for tea
8. Set up tea kit
9. Get juice & Cups ready for 1st Innings drinks break
10. Get stumps out and set up
11. Get kit out and ready for warm up.

I'm sure there is more, but you get the picture there is lots to be done and unlike last year when we were at Goldenacre, we cant just rock up at 12 - 12.15 and everything has been done for us.

I'm looking for players to be more proactive this year and help make they day more enjoyable for everyone. The plan will be to start the above list from 11.00am on home Saturdays and we will be looking for people to get to Inverleith as soon as they can to help with the above list. I also know that it is not possible for players with other commitments to be able to do this every week and we understand that. We will however be adding a 12.00 latest arrival at Inverleith for all players unless they have told the captain's beforehand.
I will be also be introducing the much missed fine system that we had in place a few years ago to encourage players to help out. If players are continually late, don't help very much, don't clear up at the end of the match or my very favourite, ask the question "I don't know where that goes!!" then there will be fines!!

Now this is mostly for the 1s but that doesn't mean there is nothing to be done if you playing for the 2s and I'm looking for a reliable 2s player to volunteer to me to take the burden off Mikey and his teams and make sure people are pulling their weight and helping out on the day and they will also get to implement fines after matches!! Let me know if you would do this for me.

Many thanks for listening to my ramblings and I promise is isn't a Rant it is our way of making sure that everything isn't left to one or two people.

Lets Play Ball.......
