SMRH II v Drummond Trinity CC 1st XI on Sat 24 May 2008 at 13.00
Drummond Trinity CC Won 299 Runs
A lovely sunny if cool day for the DTs visit to near neighbours SMRH 2. The DTs were a bit disappointed to find the fixture being played on the artificial wicket at the far side of the playing fields but the outfield was hard and fast and Ewen had no doubt about batting when he won the toss.
Coolio and Jammy started off where they had left of the week before albeit in radically different playing conditions. However, when Jamal launched their opening bowler Brown out of the park for 6 in his second over, there was a hint we were in for something very special. It is quite hard to described what followed - but basically Jamal gave a devastating display of attacking batting which had to be seen to be believed. It went something like this. Steve would defend a ball or two then get a single. Then Jamal would hit 2 or 3 boundaries usually including a six or 2. At least half a dozen times the game had to be halted as the Stew-Mel fielders wandered down the adjacent road looking for the ball which Jamal had battered there. The 50 came up in about 10 overs, the 100 in less than 20! The 150 and 200 duly followed smashing all club records in the process. When Jamal was brilliantly caught in the deep, he had scored an awesome 152 out of an opening stand of 212 in (I think) about 30 overs. he hit 12 sixes and 14 fours. If the home team thought his dismissal brought respite they were mistaken. Imran simply stepped into Jammy's shoes and Coolio fed him the strike instead. Remarkably they rushed to second century partnership with Imran clubbing some brutal sixes as well as some sumptuous shot play to all corners of the ground. The run rate did not slow at all. Coolio eventually got to his 50 a ball before Imran got his. When Imran smashed another boundary to add his century to Jamal's, the skipper declared the DT innings on 365-1 after 43 overs and one ball. 400 had looked a certainty but in truth Ewen felt the opposition who included a number of younger players had had enough already! An astonishing performance by the DTs which broke a succession of club records. Highest club total. Highest 2 stands in club history. Highest individual score. Most sixes in an innings. Only the second and third centuries by DT players. A privilege to be there.
A rather demoralised looking home side trudged over after tea - only to face a devastating opening salvo form Mandar and Imran. First Manny induced a nick by the opener Colthard which Kev led low down. Then Imran yorked the other opener Warnock. Both then gave an exhibtion of fine accurate pace bowling. Manny bowled 2 more batsmen off their legs whilst Imran managed a hat trick, two yorked (one after a wicked bouncer) and one caught behind by Kev. With 7 down the game was finished - although Crispin and Butcher hit some fine defiant boundaries late in the innings Mrs Murton and Shezza joined the attack to take the last couple of wickets and finish the Stew Mel innings on a paltry 66. Undoubtedly the biggest ever DT victory (299 runs) to add another record to the book.
A fantastic victory to follow up last weeks and prepare us for some tougher fixtures in the coming weeks.
