Drummond Trinity CC 1st XI v Grange III on Sat 17 May 2008 at 13.00
Drummond Trinity CC Won by 133 Runs

The DTs arrived at a damp and overcast Inverleith, hopeful that the weather forecast was accurate and that it would clear up during the rest of the day. Our spirits weren't greatly lifted by the fact the Council had cut us the same strip for the 3rd game running. A poor wicket and damp, long outfield, it looked good toss to win. Ewen promptly lost the toss and Jammy and Coolio went out to the middle with the opposition keen having got first bowl on the wicket.

Two very decent opening bowlers - Hearn and Munro made life hard for the DT openers but they dug in and after a while Jamal began to play some great shots despite the very variable bounce and slow outfield. Two left armers, Metcalfe and Radford joined the attack and Metcalfe in particular caused Coolio some problems (especially when he hit him in the box!) However, Jamal began to cut loose with several big, crashing boundaries and the DTs made it to 100 without loss. When Jamal was rather tamely run out going for a suicidal second he had scored 86 out of an opening partnership of 124. Coolio ploughed on whilst Imran took over where Jammy had left off. In one over he hit 5 sumptuous fours to all corners of the ground off arguably Grange's best bowler Munro. Unfortunately he got one that kept low next over to be bowled for 29. Coolio then perished a similar way to Radford for 36 but skipper Brand (23) led the charge as a succession of DT batsmen added quick runs (apart from Tim) but sacrificed their wickets. When the innings closed on 215-8 the team came off feeling they had posted a very challenging total on that wicket and had erased the memory of the previous week's batting debacle at Haddington.

Having watched the variety of low bounces and lifting balls negotiated by the DTs. Grange did not come out brimming with confidence after tea. Imran and Jamal removed both openers fairly cheaply but Canwell and Hearus held up the DTs for a while the former playing some lusty leg side shots off each bowler he faced. With the score on 59-2 it looked as if Grange might make a decent fist of their reply until a couple of pieces of good fielding led to a batting collapse. First Grant ran out Canwell going for a daft second run off a bye down the leg side form Shez. Then Coolio rolled back the years with a brilliant catch diving to his right at second slip off the Teach to dismiss the left handed Radford for a duck. Mrs Murton (3-7) then joined the attack and together with Shez who took 3-11 polished off the middle order and tail of the Grange innings which closed on only 82.

A resounding victory based on a solid start to our innings by the openers and an excellent bowling and fielding performance. Hopefully the DTs are back on track.
